Wow, I've done a really good job of neglecting the crap out of this blog. Time for a massive update and pic roundup. Here goes:

This is a custom Mini Thirteen I did for my buddy, Kirkland. Who knew he had a blog?

This is the Wonderfest Ghosts & Goblins set from Capcom x Gargamel. Thes were made for painting so, yeah...I painted mine.

Here we have a Max Toy Co. Mini Tripus I tried to give a Kirby Krackle feel to. I've been doing this a lot on my GID toys and it comes out a little different every time. I like it.

Custom S-Taiins numbers two and three. This is probably my favorite toy to come around in a long time and I can't stop painting them.

Mini Smogon. This one was really fun. Such a great sculpt.

Custom Gargamel Minis!

Alright, it's been a while since I posted here so it's time to catch up. Lately, I've been really into the eastern side of the vinyl world and I've been pretty focused on monsters. There's a lot of history there and some truly amazing craftsmanship. There are so many great Japanese companies out there dedicated to producing super high-quality toys that it's hard to know where to start. Fortunately, I discovered the SOLID figures and I've been learning a lot by painting them. On to the toys.

Well, the "It Came From Skullbrain" show in San Francisco was amazing. It was great to check out all the fantastic customs and to get the chance to meet a bunch of great people. I think, by now, I've thanked everybody that needs thanking on the various toy message boards but, in case I missed you, thanks.

I'd also like to point out that right now there are a bunch of awesome customs from the show available on Super7's website. Go check 'em out, and if you like something...BUY IT. My Sea Bop is for sale here and more photos are up on my flickr.

Deep Sea Bop Dragon

Here's my submission for the "It Came From Skullbrain" show coming up in San Francisco. I decided to go with a Bop Dragon from Rumble Monsters as the base and attempted to bring out the fish-like qualities of the sculpt to turn it into a sea monster. More pictures are up on my flickr photostream.

Plasma Dunnys

I've been really busy this month finishing these guys up for ToyCyte's CustoMonday feature and I think they came out pretty cool. This is what happens when you put a plasma globe into a dunny. Each one has a wooden base that houses the circuit board and connects to an AC adapter that plugs into a wall socket. I made four of these guys; one goes to the CustoMonday Contest winner and the other three will be for sale. Here's another pic:

Recent Customs...December/January Roundup

I've been busy making stuff and I've neglected the ol' blog. Here's a little roundup of the stuff I've been working on.

Custom Mini-Skullbrain from Secret Base. This one is a mix of spraypaint, airbrush work, and hand-painting. Once completed, this little guy got doused in acrylic clear and looks great in sunlight.

City of Cosmic Travelers is a custom Mini-Munny with a cratered head and a tiny bubble city on top. For his body, I gave him an aged metal finish, covered it with Kandy blue, and then gave it a nice, even clear. This one went to a great KR boardie who has been very supportive of my work since I started posting there.

8" GID AsteroiDunny: RED MARS Version: This one went out to an awesome customer in Canada. As much as I love the little ones, the larger Dunny allows more of the detail in the sculpt to show through. I had a great time with this one.

Hedorah from Bandai: I found this cheap Hedorah at Toys R Us a while back. I've been wanting to get more into painting monsters and this was a great place to start. I went with a mix of Montana spraypaint, airbrush (for the trans aqua), and handpainting for the highlights and eyes.

GID AsteroiDunny: RED MARS

OK, these are latest chunks of irradiated space debris I've been dealing with.

Like the previous AsteroiDunny run, the RED MARS ones are 3" tall and glow in the dark. This time around, I was able to make an edition size of 9. I took these with me down to Pasadena for VTN and managed to unload most of them. The rest went to some awesome boardies on the Kidrobot forum.

Next time around, I'm going to have to do a larger edition size. That means back to the "Dunny Factory" for me.

T.W.E.R.P. 10" Mad*L

This was my entry in the 2008 Delicious Drips ME Mad*L show back in November. His name's T.W.E.R.P. and he brought home 3rd place in the contest.

T.W.E.R.P. is what happens when you put a Thingamakit from Bleep Labs into an awesome DIY vinyl toy. A lot of work went into making this guy and I'm really happy with the result.

Big thanks to everybody involved in making this piece really special to me; Dr. Bleep, D-li$h, and the folks at D-Structure.

T.W.E.R.P. is now part of a private collection and I don't think he could've found a better home.

GID AsteroiDunny

This is the mysterious AsteroiDunny. The sample pictured here is an 8" version I made as a commission for a Kidrobot forum member.

Before that, I'd made a run of three 3" AsteroiDunnies that sold way faster than I expected. Thanks to the folks that bought 'em, your support is appreciated.

Summer Recap Pt. 2: Bleep Labs Thingamakit

This is the Thingamakit from Bleep Labs. It's a small DIY analog synthesizer.

The kit contains all the parts needed to assemble a wonderful little gizmo that's great for making all kinds of awesome electronic noises. The 1/4" output allows you to hook it up to effect pedals and amplifiers. I like using my Boss/Roland RE-20 Space Echo and a SubDecay NoiseBox for some serious noise madness.

After soldering up the kit, I gave the enclosure a custom paint job.

I'd also like to add that the folks at Bleep Labs are totally awesome. They are truly dedicated to the DIY scene and very helpful people. Thanks again Dr. Bleep.

Summer Recap Pt.1: PAL

Back in August, I finished up this little guy. His name's PAL and he wants to be your buddy.

This one is a pretty basic design and I was experimenting with different methods of creating the "static" on the TV screen. I think it came out pretty nice.

WWII Mini Destroyer

This is a fusion of a CI Boys mini destroyer and a WWII tank. I've always liked alternate history machinery so I thought it would be cool to turn the "bucket" of the mini destroyer into a WWII era army helmet. From there I just cut the turret and some of the top off of a small tank and sunk it into the bucket. The hardest part was probably dremeling through the tank's diecast hull. I took my time though and I think it came out clean. I also had to insert rods into the hull to attach the legs. They can move at the hips, knees, and ankles. Painting was easy enough; primed him, sprayed him green, drybrushed sand.

This little guy is now part of my friend Adrian's collection of awesome designer toys.

Barack Obama Is Totally Awesome

Well folks, we have a candidate. Today Senator Barack Obama made history by clenching the democratic nomination and I'll tell you something, I'm damn proud of him.

Hopefully in November the majority of the country will feel the same way as I do and we'll finally be able to blast off into the 21st century. This is the future. We've been here for 8 years and finally, we have a potential leader who is ready to take the nation in this modern age. Awesome!

I know it sounds corny but, dammit, I feel like so much is possible now. And you know what? I'm not alone.

Remember When Dinosaurs Looked Like This?

Ah, the majestic Ankylosaurus. If I had to pick a favorite dinosaur, it would be this guy.

The Ankylosaurus was about 30ft. of spikes, scales, horn, and bone. Its last seven vertebrae interlocked to support his tail club, which he could swing with bone-breaking force. A pleasant herbivore evolved for a single purpose; not to take any shit from the other dinosaurs.

So please take a moment to enjoy my favorite dinosaur. They sure don't look like this anymore.

THIS is Cool

Elvis Aaron Presley. The King of Rock'n'roll. Elvis is credited with bringing coolness to the people of Earth. Without Elvis, all that we hold dear would be nonexistent.

Hopefully, for your sake, you already have your own personal relationship with The King. If not, I highly recommend that you begin cultivating one right now. It's not that hard. All you have to do is make the conscious decision to be awesome. If you achieve true awesomeness, Elvis will come to you. Once you've seen the light you will be blessed with true coolness. And you know what? When you're truly cool, you're cool for the rest of your life.

However, if you're having a hard time being awesome you could buy some Elvis CDs to get you going on your road to coolness. I'd check out the Elvis Presley: Artist of the Century 3-disc box set if I were you.
